Landlord Question and Answer Forum

Forum / General Property Management / Unlawful detainers.
I served my tenant with an unlawful detainer as the rent for July has not been paid. The five days to respond lapsed on 8/1/08. I called the court this morning to see if the tenant had responded and I wa informed that he responded on 7/31/08. I have yet to receive any written notification of his response. What should I do? Must I hire an attorney?

RE: Unlawful detainers.
It is early, you will probably receive notification of the tenant's response soon. You are not required to hire an attorney and many landlords do handle the legal proceedings of evictions on their own. But if you would feel better and less nervous with legal representation, I would seek a good eviction attorney.
