Landlord Question and Answer Forum
My tenants contacted me last evening to tell me when they flush the toilet it backs up into the tub. Basically, the main line was backed up. I wasn't surprised since it is an old house and has happened from time to time. The plumber was out this morning and found that sanitary products had been flushed down the toilet. It isn't written in my lease that they would be responsible for plumbing repairs if they flush inappropriate items. I paid the bill but would like to make an addendum to the lease. Any suggestions on wording it correctly?

RE: Toilet issues due to flusing down items
I'd write something along the lines of "Tenant will be responsible for any plumbing or other repairs caused by their own negligence or actions, including the flushing of any products other than toilet paper."
