When you purchase a home before your apartment lease has ended, can your apartment complex charge you to terminate your lease early?

RE: Ending a lease when purchasing home
Yes Lauren, they probably can. However, they probably must find new tenants as soon as possible. Until than, you would be responsible for the rent, including advertising, etc. Check your state/local laws as well as your lease. If you know the new house is yours and a closing date has been set, send property management a certified notice. You may also want to consider discussing your situation and their policy about breaking the lease, prior to the Notice. You're probably not the 1st person to do so. Good luck and keep us posted.
