Landlord Question and Answer Forum
I have tenants that have chosen to rent my house, yet will not be moving in until the first. Can I ask for a deposit now to go towards the rent, to guarantee they are serious?

RE: Deposit for Rent
Do not take the deposit toward rent. The deposit is for damages while they live there. I would take the deposit to hold the place and then accept the rent on the day they move in or before.
