Landlord Question and Answer Forum
My lease agreement states in black and white.. Rent is due on or before the first day of each month.Does rent have to still be paid by the first if the first falls on a Saturday,Sunday or legal holiday? If this is such a rule is it applicable to only certain states? Thanks to all Landlords and attorneys that reply!

Saturday,Sunday or legal holidays
Unless otherwise stated in the lease or in state law, the rule is that the first means the first, and you need to plan accordingly.

RE: Saturday,Sunday or legal holidays
"On or before" - It is amazing how a tenant fails to see the "before" and assumes that weekend and holidays give them extra time to pay their obligation.
