Landlord Question and Answer Forum
Is it customary to request pay stubs and W2's to support income stated on the application as well as complete bank statments to evidence the source of first month rent and security deposit?

RE: Rental Application Supporting Documents
I always collect copies of pay-stubs for at least 6 pay periods along with an application. It substantiates the information on the application. Unfortunately, many people are not truthful and then a landlord ends up with a BIG problem. As far as bank statements, I have heard of this done but I do not do it myself. I simply collect ALL monies before I hand any keys over or have the lease signed. If a tenant has the money to move in, then there is no need to see that the money is available.
