Landlord Question and Answer Forum
This is a first for me, and I have been doing this for a while. A tenant below another in a fourplex has recently complained about a lot of noise from upstairs. Things being dropped, a cat running all around, jarring noises late at night and early in the morning, etc.
Both the upstairs and downstairs tenants in question have been there for 2 or 3 years. Nice to deal with.
I wrote to the upstairs tenant, and of course they were taken aback, but responded saying that they would be quieter. They were for a while, but I am again getting noise complaints.
Any suggestions? This is a tough one.

This sounds far fetched but maybe offer them to switch. Maybe they both will decline and work it out on their own. There should be rules in place of what time the noise must end but no one should have to tip toe when living in their home. Maybe offer throw rugs for the upstairs apartment. Little things that could illuminate some of the noise.
