Landlord Question and Answer Forum
In Maryland, we have 45 days after the lease ends to get the security deposit accounting letter or return the security deposit to the former tenant. What do you do if the former tenant does not pick up the letter from the post office? The post office attempted to deliver the letter once, but there was no authorized agent at home to sign for it. So, it went back to the post office and has been sitting there since. Today is February 13th. The deadline is February 15th. Please advise. Thank you.

RE: certified letters to former tenants
You would need to re-deliver or contact by other means. As long as you have proof of failed delivery you are protected. If you cannot contact them by any other means there is nothing that you can really do , but make sure to try to contact by text, phone, email hand delivery etc.
