Landlord Question and Answer Forum
I have a potential tenant who is only 17. She graduated high school early, works full-time and wants to move into our apartment with her boyfriend (over 18) who works out-of-state a lot of the time. Is it even legal for her to be on the lease if she is under 18?

RE: Can a 17 year old legally sign a lease in Maine?
She can't be legally responsible for the lease until she is of legal age.

The age of majority in most states is 18. Legally, unless they have been emancipated, anyone below the age of 18 cannot enter into a contract.
