Forum / Tenant Screening/Advertising / rejecting an application because of heresay

a 19 yr. old was approved for a one bedroom. I was told not to rent to her from several people because she has a boyfriend that was not even mentioned on the app. and he is known as one of the biggest drug dealers in town. I know I can't reject the app. because of this, or can I. I am confused. Any suggestions???

You could start out by thanking her for checking our your property. Continue by explaining that there were many applicants ahead of her that were qulaified also. Kepp it short, sweet, and friendly. Also, keep in mind you do not want to go against Fair Housing law.

I LEARNED IN APT MANAGEMENT SCHOOL TO NEVER GIVE A NEGATIVE REASON FOR NOT RENTING TO SOMEONE. WE WOULD JSUT STATE THAT WE WERE VERY SORRY BUT WE HAD RENTED TO ANOTHER APPLICANT. IF THEY GOT SPECIFIC WE WOULD EXPLAIN THAT THE DECISION IS VERY COMPLEX AND INVOLVES MANY DIFFERENT THINGS . BUT COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS ABOUT FINDING OUT ABOUT THE BOYFRIEND BEFORE HE DESTROYED YOUR RENTAL PROPERTY VALERIE MASEULI
