Are we allowed to ask current employer to verify a prospective tenants income?

Yes as a landlord it is vital that you verify employment and income. In some states you may need the tenant to sign over permission to do so, but always follow through with it.

I agree with Derrick D. Even my landlord's agent at Cloud Real Estate verified my income before I could rent the home.
