A report by MSN Real Estate's Listed blog shows housing prices up only slightly in July 2010, from a year earlier. The larger trend appears to be downward, with June's figures relatively hopeful, July's lower, and it appears August''s figures show roughly flat growth, year over year. Where are we headed? As far as I can tell, a best case scenario involves a weak winter and gradually improving sales in Spring/Summer 2011.

RE: Real Estate Market Recovery Stalling or Just Moving Slowly?
Perhaps surprisingly, I think speculation might just pull us out of our economic mess. Right now investors are just DESPERATE for good news, for an excuse to invest the money they're sitting on. I think it will help after the November elections are done, because what investors are looking for is more certainty, and every element adding to that sense of uncertainty is preventing investment in the markets. As the markets strengthen, confidence among businesses and other investors will strengthen, which will lead to businesses starting to hire again, and as these jobs come back people will start buying houses again, and they'll stop defaulting on their existing mortgages. My message to all of you: invest, whether in stocks or real estate!

Meanwhile, the nonfinancial sector continued to move at a slow speed. Retail sales were better in July than in June but that is just one ..

According to the director of research and analytics at Clear Capital, expects that U.S. home prices will decline an additional 2.4% in the last half of the year and that the market won't hit bottom until spring 2012 or even later if the jobs picture doesn't improve.

Hello everyone! Great topic. We can all use some good news when it comes to the real estate market. And right now, in spite of some naysayers, we are just glad that the real estate market is FINALLY recovering. Looking forward to more engaging discussions in the future.
