Landlord Question and Answer Forum
We rent an older single home and have for many years.
Our new tenant is requesting that we update some of our electrical as there's some ungrounded outlets but not in any area close to bathroom or sinks.
About 1/2 of the home is newer wire.
Are we required to update this?

RE: ungrounded outlets Maine
I have not heard of such a requirement, however you may want to ask a local attorney.

RE: ungrounded outlets Maine
I talked to the local building inspector from my city and he said there has to be 3 grounded outlets in each room by code. Wow now to spend some money on rewiring.

RE: ungrounded outlets Maine
Karen’s on the right track. I believe that if you ask more questions you will find out that the law you were stated ONLY applies to NEW construction. In other words, redoing a kitchen, including some wiring or replacing all the drywall/tearing out/adding walls. The law probably doesn’t apply to replacing an outlet or switch either. Check with the city again and local electrician -----Disclaimer: Since I’ve been answering a lot of questions, I thought I would make the following statement. I’m not affiliated with EZlandlord Forms. I’m just here (not sure how long) to help those that have questions. Having 40+ yrs with Rental Property and done well, it’s my way of “Pay it Forward (check out the movie).” However, it is up to you to become familiar with your State/Local laws. I always like to know if the suggestions I offer are helpful. Feel free to comment anytime. Thanks in Advance
