Landlord Question and Answer Forum
We own a home in Texas and are renting it on a 24 month lease. Someone else wants to buy the property now. Are we obligated to complete the lease or can we go ahead and sell?

RE: Selling home/terminating lease
You can sell as long as the buyer understands that they have to honor the lease agreement that is already in place. So the buyer would take on a tenant for the remainder of the lease and then can choose to renew or not renew the lease. Or, if you really want to sell the property, you could see if you could offer your tenant money in exchange for cancelling the lease agreement mutually.

RE: Selling home/terminating lease
Thanks, that makes sense. I think I'm going to turn down the offer though. It's a crappy thing to do to someone and karma is a b***ch! But that is something to think about late.
