Is is state law in Michigan that landlords provide smoke alarms and fire extinguishers in single family rental houses?

RE: Fire extinguishers/smoke alarms
In Michigan-The landlord has the duty "To keep the premises in reasonable repair during the term of the lease or license, and to comply with the applicable health and safety laws of the state and of the local unit of government where the premises are located, except when the disrepair or violation of the applicable health or safety laws has been caused by the tenants wilful or irresponsible conduct or lack of conduct."
Each locality will have their own requirements for fire safety devices. Check with your local housing, zoning or fire marshall and they can tell you specifically what is required as far as smoke detectors, carbon minoxide detectors as well as fire extinguishers.
