Landlord Question and Answer Forum
They were a couple and split up. Male tenant moved out, female wants to stay and I want her to also because she is a great tenant but she is having some issues paying on her own. Since he is on the lease as a tenant, is he liable for paying half of the rent even though he moved out?

RE: 2 tenants, 1 moves out
I do not think he is not liable if he is removed from the lease. She would need to either find a new roommate or you will have to go through the sad part of being a landlord. Having to put your foot down when you really don't want to.

If you lease is right it should indicate the they are both jointly and severally liable.
Meaning they are both responsible to make sure the entire rent is payed.
They have to work out who pays what portion.
