Landlord Question and Answer Forum
4 months into a lease, the owner has advised the tenant that the house is being sold and that they are ending the lease. Tenant has agreed to move voluntarily and has found a new home that she needs to take immediately in order to not lose it. Owner is telling her he needs her to stay for another 60 days. Does not sound right to me. Can she move now and still be eligible for her deposit? I am the manager of the new home she is wanting and am sure if she does not take it soon, it will be rented to someone else. Please advise.

RE: Sale of rental mid lease in California
Unfortunately both parties are supposed to held to the lease for the entire term unless they draw up a mutual termination of lease. They may be able to negotiate this or hold them accountable for breaking the lease first by selling the property.
