Landlord Question and Answer Forum
I evicted on 11/4/15, but the lease goes until Sept. 2016. Under NJ law, do I need to send an accounting statement to the renter as to why I'm keeping the security deposit within 30 days of eviction, or 30 days of the end of the lease (either by lease date or date I sell the house or find a new renter)? I believe under NJ law, the renter evicted is technically on the hook for the rent until I sell or re-rent, so I'm confused as to whether I need to send out this notice now or not. I don;t want to make a mistake and have him sue me for treble! I appreciate any knowledge on this! Thanks!!
