Landlord Question and Answer Forum
I have a tenant whose lease is good through July 30. He decided to break the lease and move out May 23rd. There was maybe 30-days notice to the move out. I told the client that I am going to keep the deposit and refund any unused portion based upon when it gets leased again. Am I within my legal rights?

RE: Security Deposit - Michigan
In Michigan you can use security deposit for unpaid rent, utilities, and any damages outside of normal wear and tear. Since you are using it for rent unpaid at move out, I think it is in within your rights.
