I rent out a duplex in Indiana. The backyard is Not mentioned as private for the downstairs in the lease. I locked it due to high traffic. They can access it via the side door. Is this legal?

RE: Locked gate to common area
Unless it's stated clearly in the lease as off limits, tenants can assume everything outside of their apartment and on the property is community area.

It's mentioned the Tenant is supposed to take care of the yard, which they have never done

RE: Locked gate to common area
So they are expected to take care of an area (backyard) that you keep locked?
