Landlord Question and Answer Forum
A 17 year old is renting a room from me and her mother will be a cosigner. Who do I list as the tenant? I had initially made a lease with the mother as the tenant and the daughter as the occupant but I'm not sure if this is accurate. I will appreciate any guidance. Thank you!

RE: Lease Agreement for a 17 Year Old
You make sure to list the person living in the house as the tenant, the co-signer should have a separate agreement that they agree to be the financial responsibility in case of default for this tenant. the co-signer is not a tenant.

RE: Lease Agreement for a 17 Year Old
You really need to check your state law or attorney to see if a 17 yr old can be legally responsible for signing a lease.
