Landlord Question and Answer Forum
Hello,
I am interested in putting our rental home up for sale but, we recently renewed a 1 year lease agreement with the tenant. Does anyone know how an active lease can affect the selling of a property? Any help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Debbie

RE: Selling a House when there is a current lease
Hi Debbie, lease agreements transfer with the property, you'll have to make all prospective buyers aware that there's a lease agreement active until X date, and the buyer will have to honor it. Alternatively, you can always approach the tenant about the possibility of them vacating early, but they would have to agree to it, as they now have a legal right to remain until the end of your new lease contract.
