Landlord Question and Answer Forum
The refrigerator in my rental was fried during an electrical storm. My rental is in a remote rural mountain town. Having someone come out to look at, declare it dead, and then ordering a new one and having it deliverd took nearly two weeks. My tenants have been good, long term renters and I want to do right by them. They have asked about a reduction in rent for the month due to the downtime without a working refrigerator. I am new to this (renting my house only because I moved for a job and haven't been able to sell it). What is an appropriate $ or % to offer?
Thank you

RE: appropriate rent reduction for appliance down time
I'd offer them a $200 rent reduction for their trouble. In general, I prefer to reward tenants with gift cards, not rent reduction, but in this case I think rent reduction is more appropriate.
