Landlord Question and Answer Forum
My poor tenants moved in 2 weeks before (August 1st) the wildfire destroyed their home. I gave them back their deposit immediately
I was wondering about August rent. I was also evacuated and lost my primary home that was across the street.
We were evacuated on 8-20-20.. my question is.. should I return the rent they paid for August for the days they couldn’t be there?
It would be approximately 10 days. Thank you in advance

RE: My rental is a total loss in Ca wildfires
You can always file but that doesn't promise IRS will allow.

I think you should pay them back the amount paid since the financial conditions there, is quite unstable. Owing to the fact that they are poor I think you should consider this. I'm sorry the situation is bad for you too. I hope it gets better. Take care.
