My very elderly father (in CA) wants to move into a small apt he owns that is currently rented. There are long time, good tenants in it. Because of the moratorium in our area on most evictions due to COVID, I suggested he offer them money to move. He offered them some money and 60 days free rent (no rent due for their last 2 months of tenancy). They took the offer. Is any of what he is giving them to move, deductible on his taxes?
