Landlord Question and Answer Forum
i've read the Alaska State Landlord Tenant Act but i have an additional question about assistance pets. The line that states "that landlords who receive subsidies must, under most circumstances, permit service animals to live in a rental unit" is confusing. If I, as a landlord of a small triples, do NOT receive federal or state subsidies does that mean I am exempt from having to allow service or assistance pets in my building?

RE: Assistance pets
Yes. That's what it says. Additionally, "Service" animals and "Emotional Support" animals are two separate issues. "Service" animal are ordered by a Professional Health Care Individual (Doctor) and fall under ADA rules. "Emotional Support" animals do not and therefore are considered pets for all purposes.
