Landlord Question and Answer Forum
Hello,
I am wonder in the state of California how much notice do I need to provide to my tenants for a rental rate increase. How do I have to deliver the notice? What is the percentage that I can increase the rent.
I currently rent the place at $2800 and thinking about a market increase to $2950 or even $3000
They have been their over 1 year and now the place is at month to month. May I keep it month to month with increasing the rent? or do I need to have them sign for another lease.
Any help, feed back or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

RE: Rent increase State California
Hello,
If they're MTM (Month to Month), you can change rent every month if you want with a 30 day notice (I typically give 45 to be on the safe side).
As for how much - unless it's government subsidized housing, how much you want to charge is solely your decision. $2,900, $3,000, $5,000 or $50,000/month makes no difference if you get someone willing to pay.
