Document Description
Prior to the initiation of eviction proceedings, a 14 Day Notice is required for non-payment of rent.
Who: Give this notice to a tenant who is behind on their rent.
What: Notice to Quit for Non-payment of Rent warns the tenant to pay the amount due, vacate the premises or face eviction.
When: This notice is given to a tenant 14 days prior to filing for an eviction.
Important! Landlords of public housing and rent-control tenants must first go through the local housing authority and rent control board, respectively, before the landlord can proceed with the eviction. Public housing and rent control tenants have the right to a hearing in front of the appropriate board.
Warning: Massachusetts evictions can be complicated; an attorneys advice and counsel is strongly suggested.
